The Kindergarten test is designed to help determine your child’s readiness to perform tasks of our Kindergarten curriculum. Some of the key skill areas on the test address letter/sound recognition, numerical fluency, and fine/gross motor skills, etc. Mastery of the test is not expected! Rather, the test is administered to help parents and the teacher identify particular areas of skill development and each child’s readiness to be in Kindergarten. Additionally, the test helps assist the teacher in planning a more appropriate program for your child and each student.

In preparing your young child for Kindergarten, here are specific areas your child may need to focus on before school begins:

Name recognition: Can your child give his full name when asked? Can your child write his/her name?

Shape recognition: Can your child identify various shapes (square, triangle, and circle)?

Listening skills: Does your child have the ability to stay still and listen to a story for 10 minutes or more?

Oral skills: Can your child speak in full, complete sentences?

Gross motor skills: Can your child hop, skip, and jump?

Behavioral expectations: Will your child follow directions if asked by an authority figure (teacher or parent)?

Can your child finish one activity before starting another?
