Second Grade with Ms. Doherty

Our learning focus is building strong problem solving skills. We learn to regroup with addition and subtraction of larger numbers, count money, understand fraction parts and geometric shapes.

We practice independent and group reading frequently every day in order to become fluent readers. Additionally, we focus on developing a deeper understanding, using comprehension strategies and text evidence of various texts.

We learn the importance of asking questions and observing results to model scientific reasoning methods.

We develop our faith as we prepare for First Communion.

Class Highlights

October: Kinder to 2nd grade Pumpkin Patch Field Trip

April: Second grade celebrates First Communion.

Robust Learning Environment

In 2nd grade we incorporate many modalities of learning: sign language, movement, art, engaging lessons involving treats, and blending learning. Blended Learning is where students rotate between various stations that target personalized learning through the use of technology. One station can even scan QR codes!
