7th Grade Homeroom with Mrs. LeBlanc

Math
Course Instruction will focus on these 4 key concepts:
 
  • Developing understanding and applying proportional relationships
  • Developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations
  • Solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, and working with two and three dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume
  • Drawing inferences about population bases on samples

Science
The seventh graders compete in the annual Science Fair. Seventh grade science focus is life science where students learn about cell structure, body organization, and the organization of living materials.

 

Social Studies  

Students study the social, cultural, and technological changes that occurred in Europe, Africa, and Asia in the years A.D. 500-1789. After reviewing  the ancient world and the ways in which archaeologist and historians uncover the past, students will study the history and geography of great civilizations that were developing at the same time throughout the world during medieval and early modern times.  

 

English Language Arts
In 7th grade, students will increase their communication and critical thinking skills through reading, writing, and speaking. Students will learn and understand different writing styles, and deepen their understanding of literary elements such as plot, setting, and characters. Students will study myths, fables, and legends, learning the cultural values that underlie their interesting plots. Students will explore timeless questions about human choice, society, and self-identity through various novels, and will make text-to-text and text-to-real world connections. Students will continue to hone their writing craft and comprehension by learning to write narratives, essays, reports, and/or opinion pieces.

 
Religion
In 7th grade religion we prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation. The class retreat takes place at the Dominican Sisters Motherhouse in Fremont where the 7th graders complete complete a service project for the retired sisters.
