Music
World music and cultural traditions are explored in our St. James music classes along with liturgical songs
and meaning. Students
perform twice during the school year. Our Winter concert features Christmas
music and our Spring concert showcases popular music from around the world and
throughout the ages.
St. James families are encouraged
to cultivate their child’s musical abilities outside school, whether by instrument
or voice lessons, weekly liturgical participation or independent music study.
Performing Arts: Drama
Building self-esteem and social-emotional competence through musical theater!
Weekly classes are based on a uniquely designed course of instruction that blends our mission with key California curriculum standards in drama, dance, and music. Working closely with St. James and teachers, we ensure that students not only learn skills in each subject but also explore their creativity through self-expression. At St. James, the in-school lessons occur in conjunction with an on-site after-school drama program; in this case, each class performs a song and dance number during the show, while the after-school drama students comprise the show’s cast of characters.
Choir
For students wishing to enrich their music study, St. James students may join choir. Participants will learn three-part as well as solo signing.
